Red Cross Responds in Haiti

The American Red Cross is asking for financial donations to help support the relief operation to Haiti. You can donate today by calling (920) 684-6601 or mailing a donation to 205 N. 8th Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220. You can also make a $10 donation by texting the word HAITI to 90999.

The Red Cross cannot accept the donation of clothing or other items due to the logistical costs of sorting and shipping those items. Your financial donation will ensure that specialized relief supplies can be purchased or shipped from pre-positioned warehouses and utlized by trained international relief volunteers. In addition, we are unable to send local volunteers to Haiti due to the special training that is required prior to any international deployment. Persons interested in volunteering are encouraged to sign up with the Chapter now so that they can get trained and respond to the next disaster here in the United States.

If you are concerned about a US citizen living or traveling in Haiti, please call the US State Department at 1-888-407-4747 for assistance. If you are seeking others in Haiti, the International Committee of the Red Cross has also established a family linking web site, enabling persons in Haiti and abroad to search for and register the names of relatives missing since the earthquake. Bookmark the Safe & Well Website

Every time disasters strike there is a potential to be separated or lose communications with family and friends. The Safe and Well Website is an internet-based tool that allows those affected by a disaster to let their loved ones know of their well-being. People within a disaster-affected area are able to select and post standard messages. Concerned family members who know the person's current phone number or a complete home address can then search for the posted messages, providing peace of mind. Bookmark the Safe & Well Website in case you find yourself out of touch with someone you love during a disaster.
